Epiphany of the Lord

Bible Study

Bible Study Group

The Bible Study Group is a shared English Martyrs-Our Lady's activity. It meets at 7.30 on the second Friday of every month except August (and see below for what happens in Lent). The venue and theme are advertised in advance in both parish newsletters.

The format is simple: after a welcoming cup of tea/coffee and a short introduction from the compère for the evening, we break into small groups to discuss the bible passage for the evening, which will have been made available in advance for those who like to be prepared! The discussion is facilitated by group leaders who have volunteered for the task. Then after more tea/coffee we gather for a closing meditation, prayers or other activity, decided upon by the compère (again, a volunteer). Many of us continue the discussion over a drink at a local pub afterwards, so this is a great group for getting to know people and making new friends.

Everyone is very welcome, and no special bible knowledge is needed, simply a desire to let the scriptures touch our lives. Participation can be at whatever level you want, from offering to compère a session to simply turning up now and then.

During Lent we hold weekly meetings on Fridays to follow a Lent course.
